Brandy K. Castillo started Inspired Behavioral Health, Inc. as a result of over 20 years of combined past work in Fort Bend CORPS and her role as Sr. Executive Vice President of Greene Behavioral Health, Inc. and Gaither Group, LLC. Castillo learned firsthand the best model for providing residential treatment services to the mentally ill – a productive model that has been in existence for 18 years in Tennessee and boasts a 2% recidivism rate. However, she was initially unable to implement one in Texas for three reasons: the services provided were neither private nor residential, the policies and procedures for providing such services did not exist, and there was a lack of funding for residential services. This gap in welfare for Texas residents did not stop her. Working tirelessly with the Texas Legislation, Castillo helped established a pilot program during the 85th legislation Senate Bill (SB) 292. Not only did SB 292 unanimously pass, but the House also requested more funds to support the bill so that it would cover all areas of Texas, not just the most populated counties. Castillo has worked tirelessly to advocate for her residents and the mentally ill. She believes, “mental illness is not a crime”. And she will continue to educate all Texans on this issue.
